Barbara will deliver Edge Orchestration capabilities in a New Era of Plug and Play Automation.

Barbara, the Edge Management and Orchestration Company, specialized in Industrial Edge Computing, has joined UniversalAutomation.org (UAO), an independent, not-for-profit association whose mission is to create a new category of software defined automation solutions, decoupling the software from the hardware on which it executes. This is achieved through the management of a shared source implementation of a runtime execution engine based on the IEC-61499 standard. For the first time, IT, OT, and software vendors, along with industrial end users, OEMs, and academics, will share a common automation software layer across their technologies—regardless of brand.

.- Barbara will integrate the IEC-61499 standards to enable seamless orchestration of runtimes across multiple locations.

.- By orchestrating runtimes, organizations can achieve greater scalability and enhance cibersesecurity for large deployments that involve hundreds of virtual PLCs in different sites.

Since its inception, Barbara has been at the forefront of Industry 4.0, assisting organizations in virtualizing their equipment to deploy and orchestrate edge applications.

As investment in software grows to support Industrial IoT and Industry 4.0 use cases, the current approach to automation must evolve, moving away from closed, proprietary programming to open, plug-and-play automation. This shift will unlock the full potential of the connected industry, enabling greater flexibility and innovation.

"Our participation in UAO represents another significant step in our commitment to delivering open and flexible solutions based on industry standards, enabling industrial organizations to innovate more rapidly and with reduced risk." - David Purón, CEO at Barbara.

As newly elected President of UniversalAutomation.org Mrs. Raquel Torres said :

“ We are thrilled to welcome Barbara, as the newest member of UniversalAutomation.org. Their expertise will greatly enrich our mission to drive a new era of software defined automation solutions. Together, we will shape the future of automation for the benefit of all industry stakeholders".

Barbara and UniversalAutomation.org invite all entities interested in shaping the future of automation to consider joining the non-profit association. Together, we can build a more agile, sustainable, and innovative industrial world.

Barbara will use the UAO maintained source code to create a runtime management and orchestration solution.

Barbara will use the UAO maintained source code to create a runtime management and orchestration solution‍ tailored for customers facing the challenge of deploying multiple runtimes in remote and mission-critical environments.

"There is a huge room for improvement on the way runtimes are managed and orchestrated today. By joining UAO we aim to contribute to make large runtime deployments more scalable and secure through modern Edge Management functions''. David Purón CEO at Barbara.

About UniversalAutomation.org

UniversalAutomation.org is an independent, not-for-profit association managing the reference implementation of an industrial automation shared source runtime.

The shared runtime is based on the IEC61499 standard for interoperability between hardware from different vendors and portability of software applications. UniversalAutomation.org provides a ready-to-go solution that enables flexible Industry 4.0 automation architectures and drastically improves return on investment with easy reusability and portability.

The ongoing development of the runtime is managed by the association following shared source principles to ensure compatibility. Members act collectively, sharing technology development, insights, and information to create a market of “plug and produce” automation solutions.

UniversalAutomation.org is expanding with more end users/SIs/OEMs and vendors eager to implement the runtime in their products. Universities can use the technology to help educate and inaugurate the new generation of industrial engineers driving automation innovation. Any entity looking to help advance industrial automation is welcome to join.
