Innovation has been at the heart of Barbara’s progress in 2024. This year, we delivered two significant upgrades to the Barbara Platform, further solidifying our position as the leading platform for Edge AI management and orchestration:

• Version 2.7.5 introduced key user experience (UX) enhancements, making the platform more intuitive and efficient. Updates included improved navigation, advanced logging capabilities, and refined deployment workflows to simplify edge management.
• Version 2.8.0 brought substantial advancements to AI frameworks and network management, enabling seamless deployment and orchestration of AI workloads at the edge. Highlights included support for advanced AI models, improved scalability for networked environments, and enhanced resource allocation tools to optimize performance.

Additionally, the Barbara Marketplace nearly tripled its number of applications this year, providing a robust suite of off-the-shelf standard solutions designed to turbo-charge industrial businesses. With certified Edge Apps ready for deployment, the Marketplace minimizes time-to-market and optimizes ROI, delivering Edge-as-a-Service capabilities that require little to no customization.

Our drive for innovation also extended to creating strategic partnerships with leading industry players. Collaborations with AVEVA, Schneider Electric, Stratus Technologies,and AI EdgeLabs, among others, have enabled us to deliver an ecosystem that ensures our customers receive robust, reliable, and secure end-to-end digital solutions based in Edge AI.

As further proof of our commitment to creating a community, this year we also proudly joined UniversalAutomation.org. This collaboration allows us to actively contribute to the development of hardware-independent edge automation environments, promoting flexibility, openness, and innovation across products and industries.

At Barbara, we are continually pushing the boundaries of Edge AI, unlocking its transformative potential across multiple industrial sectors. This year, we reached significant milestones by expanding into key industries such as Process Manufacturing, Cement, and Machine Tool Manufacturing, among others.

1. Smarter Water Management with Edge AI

By deploying advanced Edge AI solutions, we enabled water plants to optimize reagent dosing, significantly improving efficiency and sustainability. A major highlight of this achievement was Barbara being honored with the Best Utilities Solution award at the IoT Solutions World Congress. Competing alongside exceptional projects from industry leaders like Aramco and Repsol, this recognition reflects the innovation achieved in partnership with our visionary customer ACCIONA.

2. Enabling the Green and Digital Energy Transition

Barbara solidified its position as a leader in Edge AI for the Digital Grid market. Through projects like IA4TES (Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Energy Transition), ODEON (Federated Data and Intelligence Orchestration and sharing for the Digital Energy transitiON) and EASYDC-FOS, we demonstrated our capabilities in real-time data processing for high-voltage systems and smarter substations, establishing Barbara’s platform as the most trusted edge technology in this complex market.

Additionally, our collaboration with Cuerva enabled utilities to transition from traditional edge infrastructures to intelligent, future-ready solutions, showcasing how innovation can transform energy management. Furthermore, Iberdrola and Enedis selected Barbara’s product to to pilot edge computing infrastructure for secondary substation, enhancing their ability to integrate real-time intelligence into grid operations.

3. Optimizing processes with Edge Computing and AI

Beyond energy and utilities, Barbara successfully deployed its edge technology across industries such as Cement and Concrete Manufacturing, Pharmaceuticals, Food & Beverage, and OEM Machine Tool Manufacturing. These deployments highlight the versatility of our platform to drive efficiency, intelligence, and innovation across a diverse range of industrial applications.
