Living the Culture: How We Walk the Walk at Barbara

When I first joined Barbara as People Manager, I was eager to see how the company's values would play out in our daily operations. It’s one thing to talk about culture, but experiencing it firsthand is quite another. This is my experience

From day one, I observed that our core values—dynamism, transparency, innovation, and accountability—truly drive everything we do. We don’t just talk the talk; we walk the walk here.

I remember one of my initial meetings where the team was working in short sprints. It struck me how dynamic and agile we are as a company. We truly embrace the change. Whether it's responding to evolving customer needs or market shifts, our ability to pivot swiftly reflects our proactive culture.

Transparency stands out profoundly at Barbara. I've always believed in the importance of open communication, but seeing it in action here has been truly inspiring. From an HR perspective, maintaining transparency and fostering effective communication with both employees and leadership is crucial. Whether it’s our all-hands meetings, where CEO David Purón lays out the state of the company, or the regular one-on-one feedback sessions, there is a genuine commitment to honesty and openness. It’s empowering to work in an environment where transparency is a fundamental part of our approach to overcoming challenges and driving success.

Innovation is deeply ingrained in our culture. I’ve been continually impressed by the creativity and out-of-the-box thinking that our teams bring to the table daily. We are consistently encouraged to push boundaries and think creatively, with phenomenal support for continuous learning. It’s clear that Barbara genuinely values and fosters the unique ideas of every employee.

Accountability is another cornerstone of our culture. Though meeting deadlines and hitting targets are important, it's equally crucial to take ownership and be accountable for our actions. While we enjoy the flexibility to work remotely and set our own schedules, this comes with a high level of responsibility. It's about owning our tasks and delivering results efficiently.

Building a culture that truly embodies these values is crucial. However, creating and sustaining such a culture can be a significant challenge, as it often proves difficult to translate abstract values into everyday practices. Achieving alignment with the company's culture not only enhances employee satisfaction but is also reflected in improved performance and overall organizational success.

Now, a year and a half into my journey with Barbara, I’ve seen firsthand how these values are not just discussed but actively lived every day. Being part of Barbara has shown me that this approach creates a workplace where everyone can truly thrive. I’m proud to be part of a team that embodies these values so authentically.
